The Upper East Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Dzotsi has confirmed that one person has died of Monkeypox at the Upper East Regional hospital.
The victim, a military officer, died three days after he reported to the hospital.
He was taken to the hospital on Saturday 23rd July 2022 and died on Tuesday, 26th July 2022.
Speaking to our reporter, Dr. Dzotsi called on the public to be observant as efforts are underway to educate all and sundry on how safety measures in dealing with the virus.
He added that the directorate was putting things in place to brief the public as well as give further details of the recorded case.
“All that I can say is that yes, we have recorded one case and the person has died. I will not be able to give further information because we will brief the media in the coming days,” he told our reporter on the phone.
Worried residents have thus called on the government to put tangible measures that can assist health workers in the region to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, it could be recalled that the first case of monkeypox was recorded in Ashanti Region and later five other regions were said to have also recorded similar cases.
