Burkina Faso Leader Lifts Ban on Ghana After President Mahama’ Diplomatic Efforts

Burkina Faso has officially reversed its ban on cereal exports to Ghana following high-level diplomatic efforts led by former President John Mahama.

The decision comes as a relief to traders and consumers who were affected by the restrictions, which had disrupted the flow of essential food supplies between the two neighboring countries.

Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), confirmed that Mahama successfully negotiated the release of trucks carrying grains that had been detained due to the restrictions imposed by Burkina Faso’s military government.

“I think the issue has been resolved. Initially, 23 trucks were seized, along with eight others. The 23 have now been released, and Burkina Faso has assured President Mahama that the remaining eight will be freed soon,” Gbevlo-Lartey stated.

Mahama’s intervention shows his diplomatic skill and commitment to ensuring food security for Ghanaians. His proactive approach in resolving the matter has been widely praised, with many calling for continued support for his leadership in addressing regional trade challenges and fostering stronger economic ties between Ghana and its neighbors.
