WN/R Boosting Cocoa Production: COCOBOD Sensitizes Chief Farmers, Youth To Start Hand Pollination

COCOBOD Sensitizes Over 200 Society Chief Farmers And Youth To Start Hand Pollination To Boost Cocoa Yield

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is vent on sensitizing cocoa farmers across the country on hand pollination exercise to get more yield and to increase the tonnes of cocoa for export to back on social and developmental projects in the country.

The Sefwi Bekwai District Chief farmer, Mr. Kwame Obiriyeden, addressing cocoa farmers from the various communities in Sefwi Bekwai, in the Bibiani Ahwianso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North stated that the 200 society chief farmers and youths who have acquired knowledge and skills in hand pollination should try their possible best to formulating the hand pollination exercise to boost production.

Mr. Kwame Obiriyeden speaking to Peace News, advised cocoa farmers to stop selling their cocoa farms to illegal miners, rather concerntate on the cocoa business since it will benefit them and the future generations, and embraced the hand pollination to enhance their income and livelihoods.

He, therefore eulogized government and COCOBOD, hence appeal for agro inputs and chemicals to improve the healthy flowering.

The Sefwi Bekwai District Pollination Coordinator, Mr Apenteng Anthony, who was invited to sensitize society chief farmers urged the farmers to put much effort into the hand pollination and also encouraged other farmers to join the training sessions to increasing farm yields and national production as COCOBOD has set a production target of one million metric tonnes as against last season’s achievement.

Some of the society chief farmers eulogized government and COCOBOD for such initiative and appeal for more inputs to increase yield for this season.
