On April 8, Mr Chris Nikoi paid a courtesy call on Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture on his working visit to Ghana. He is the World Food Programme(WFP) Regional Director for West and Central Africa.
They deliberated on how the WFP will support the government of Ghana’s priorities and agenda in Agriculture and food security. They examined some of the Ministry Of Food And Agriculture- Ghana’s strategic plans to revolutionize the Agricultural sector in Ghana.
The meeting also touched on the impact of the Ukraine-Russia crisis on the sector, how Ghana has positioned itself to deal with the pending difficulties as well as the opportunities the situation has presented.
It was an engaging and fruitful meeting in which the Regional Director was assured of the good measures the government has put in place to weather the storm efficiently and effectively.
WFP will collaborate with the government of Ghana to advance from the ‘Bread Basket of West Africa’ to a source of Agricultural commodities to neighbouring countries, value addition and agro-processing.
