The Manager of the Forestory Commission, Sefwi Wiawso Division, Mr Obeng Boamah has urged the chiefs and people residing along the SUHUMA forest reserve at KYEIKROM, Ohenekrom ,Beposo, Samfifire, Nantiedi, Kwaku- Buah, Kwadwokrom in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region to always protect the reserve and report illegal farmers and chainsaw operators who enters the forest for their selfish interest so that we can continually enjoy the benefits of the reserve as enshrined in the constitution.
Mr Boamah emphasized this after handing over Social Responsibility Agreement SRA cheque of Thirty-four thousand, three hundred and forty- nine Ghana Cedis, twenty six pesewas GHC34, 349.26 from SAMARTEX TIMBER & PLYWOOD COMPANY LTD to the SRA Committee from Kyeikrom and its environs led by Nana Gyedu and Awuku Addo.
He added that his outfit has recently gone into the forest and destroyed a vast land of crops which have been planted in the forest illegally and will not hesitate to prosecute those miscreants if arrested .
Mr Boamah further explained the processes involved in enrolling the modified Tonja system and allocating the reserve to the farmers for farming.
Nana Kofi Gyedu, chairman of the local council chiefs along the SUHUMA forest after receiving the cheque pledged his support and elaborated on measures they will be putting inplace to protect the forest, adding that he will personally not attend to farmers and relatives who would be arrested for illegal farming and chainsawing in the forest.
