The Northern Regional Campaign Team of Aspiring Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has rubbished claims that the Assin North legislator is anti-Northerners.
According to the campaign team, the NPP Presidential Aspirant has done more for the people of the north than “people who parade themselves as Northern politicians”.
For this reason, the campaign team said it would be misleading for anyone to claim that Mr Agyapong was Anti-Northerners.
The Northern Regional Campaign Team of Ken Agyapong was responding to claims by an NPP youth group in Tamale that the maverick politician was anti-Northerners, following his viral interview where he was lamenting over the possibility of the 2024 elections being an all- northern affair, making reference to the election of former President John Dramani Mahama as NDC’s candidate and the presence of Mahama Ayariga of All People’s Congress (APC) in the race.
“Mahama is a northerner. Ayariga is a northerner. Assuming Bawumia wins, he is also a northerner,” Kennedy Agyapong said in the viral radio interview.
The Presidential Aspirant has since come under criticisms from many including the Tamale- based NPP youth group for allegedly playing the tribal card.
However responding to such claims, Hon Ken’s Northern Regional Campaign Team at a press conference in Tamale on Wednesday claimed the group and critics of Mr Agyapong spin his statement to tarnish his hard earned reputation.
“Unfortunately, as this group sought to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, its members failed to realize that he has done far more to help our fellow northerners than many politicians who hail from this part of the country” Huseini Abubakari Sadiq, popularly known as Alhaji Baba Gushegu, Northern Regional Coordinator for Ken Agyanpong said.
He said the Assin Central MP has over the years immensely supported the people of Northern Ghana and thus, cannot be said to be anti-Northerners.
“Ken Ohene Agyapong donated a 1000KVA generator to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) during the erratic power supply in the country popularly known as Dumsor. This gesture was shown to the whole of the north as Tamale Teaching Hospital TTH, is the third largest healthcare delivery center in the country. Doctors were resorting to touch lights as the only available means to carry on theater operations. Today, people who parades themselves to love northerners more than anyone else, WHERE WERE THOSE WHO CLAIM TO LOVE NORTHERNERS?
2. It took the like of Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong who has no traces of a northern background be it paternally or maternally to donate hundreds of 50kg rice and cooking oil to the feuding factions in Bawku in the Upper East region. This, he said “I’m not a Mamprusi nor a Kusasi, but am a Ghanaian. I cannot allow innocent lives to perish out of hunger as a result of riot”. Again WHERE WERE THOSE WHO CLAIM TO LOVE NORTHERNERS. Alhaji Baba Gushegu noted.
He added that “Ken Ohene Agyapong is on record with his Northern Industrialization Agenda to transform the lives of people. Because of this proposed agenda, the Assin Central MP and NPP presidential hopeful has sustained criticism from certain quarters but is undeterred and has gone so far as to state that whether or not he receives the nomination, he plans to build factories there”.

KEN OHENE AGYAPONG’S POSITION ON NORTHERNERS AND THE NORTH Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf the regional campaign team, I welcome you all to this special occasion.
Our attention has been drawn to a press conference organized by a group calling itself Northern Forum for NPP during which they made factually false statements, which when left unattended to, will mislead the good people of the north.
At the said press conference, this previously unknown group mischievously twisted the otherwise unifying statements made by Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong for what can best be described as political expedience.
Unfortunately, as this group sought to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, its members failed to realize that he has done far more to help our fellow northerners than many politicians who hail from this part of the country.
I will take a moment to enumerate what Hon. Ken Ohene Aavapona has done for the northern
cause. After that, I will list what he has planned to do to transform the fortunes of the north and Northerners as a whole:

The only regional library that serves the educational needs of pupils got it’s decades of debt paid off by no less a person than Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong. once again WHERE WERE THOSE WHO CLAIM TO LOVE NORTHERS?
4. A man who has provided free airtime in one of his media outlets,Net2 tv to propagate and educate Muslims the teachings of Islam, a religious body with dominance in the northern region. How could such a person hate northerners?
5. Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has over seven thousand employees under his group of companies in which over a thousand employees are of the northern decent. One among them by name Alhaj Kudus, has the trust of Hon Ken. So why then would such a person turn to hate the people he keeps around himself?
These are only a few of the many things that Hon. Ken Ohene agyapong has done in the past for northerners. And We want to use this medium to let the Honorable MP from Assin Central know that northerners are not ingrates and would never turn our back against him.
Now we would like to take the opportunity to refer to the vision of Ken Ohene Agyapong for the north, which more accurately represent his true sentiments but which the Northern Forum for NPP ignored.
Ken Ohene Agyapong is on record with his Northern Industrialization Agenda to transform the lives of people. Because of this proposed agenda, the Assin Central MP and NPP presidential hopeful has sustained criticism from certain quarters but is undeterred and has gone so far as to state that whether or not he receives the nomination, he plans to build factories there.
Ken Ohene Agyapong has sustained further criticism from some southern quarters with his promise to turn the northern part of our country into such a bastion of employment that it will reverse the trend of northerners migrating southward for job opportunities.
Ken Ohene Agyapong has stated that he was so saddened by the developmental neglect of the northern part of the country that he jovially proposed caning for all northern politicians for the wanton neglect of their part of the country despite the opportunities given to them since independence.
Ken Ohene Agyapong also stated that “a northern brother is someone who wants to help you to improve your live, and not necessarily someone who merely hails from the north but refuses to help you.” He was, by this statement, reminding northerners that he would be a true brother when elected president.
It is, thus, unfortunate that the Northern Forum for NPP would ignore all these deeply felt commitments to the Northern cause and instead focus on misrepresenting statements that do not mean what they propagate them to mean.
