government to dualized major highway roads across the country ~ Road Minister

Minister of roads and highways Akwasi Amoako Atta has announced government plans to dualized major highway roads across the country.

According to him, it is the direction of the government to dualized major highways adding that the country has to move from single carriage road where a lot of life perished during an accident

Hon. Akwasi Amoako-Atta made the remarks when he was inspecting the ongoing road construction works on Tarkwa-Agona Nkwanta road as part of his tour to the Western region to inspects ongoing road projects in the region.

He stressed that ministry of roads and highways engineers take note of the government plans to ensure that anytime a contract is awarded for highways projects, it will be dualized.

Government direction, government policy, is to try as much as possible to dualized all highways and you know the benefit of dualization.

We are getting too late on these things, single carriage way where vehicles cause each other is old, a thing of the past.The whole world has moved from that, We record many fatalities because vehicles collide. So, we should have in mind, whenever we are constructing highway roads.

Hon Amoako Attah again disclosed that, there should be decent rest places on the highways, so that when people are traveling and are tired they can get a decent place to rest or ease themselves, just as we have in Europe and elsewhere.

This according to him that he was misconstrued by some Ghanaians when he earlier indicated that tollbooths would be converted to toilets to provide place of convenience for travelers.

This is what I was talking about and some people who didn’t understand me and making mockery of me that I have said tollbooths would be turned into toilets he stressed.

Civil engineer for Gabriel Coutou Rango Consortium, Peter Quarshie the contractor on the Tarkwa road in an interview explained that the contract was approved July this year to commence work after the sod cutting on September 1, 2021 by president Akufo-Addo but work is progressing steadily and will work hard to finished ahead of time.
