ELECTIONS 2016: peace will be ensured, Ghanaians assured

The Chief of Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Matthew Quarshie, has assured Ghanaians that his unit will ensure that this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections are held in a peaceful atmosphere.

With the countdown to the elections at the end of this year having commenced, there is pressure on the country’s security agencies to position themselves to safeguard the ballots and the people.

In a news interview with Citi News sighted by heroesghnews.com, Vice Admiral Matthew Quarshie admitted that election years in Ghana are particularly tense with tempers always high, but insisted that the security agencies are up to the task of ensuring peaceful polls in November.

He called on Ghanaians to channel the spirit of peace and goodwill which he says were the tenets of the Christmas festivities throughout 2016.

“One of the messages of Christmas is peace on earth and goodwill towards all men. If we have peace, we will have development. We should treat our neighbours the way we want to be treated. If we are able to do that, then there will be peace, there’ll be no rancor and we’ll work together for the peace of our country,” he noted.
