Today, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo shamed his critics as he, together with his wife, stormed the final funeral rites of the mother of his Vice, Hajia Mariama Bawumia. Many were expecting him to deliver a long and boring speech.

“We have come from all parts of the country to Walewale to express our sympathy to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and his siblings to pay our respect to the memory of his late mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia. She is a woman of unfailing courtesies. She always made colleagues and friends of her son very welcome in her home here. I thank her very much for that. She was a devoted wife and a remarkable woman for one of the most prominent statesmen of his era and one of the leading spirits in the formation of the modern people’s party. She was also the mother of the generally acknowledged as the most outstanding Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Bawumia. May her soul rest in perfect peace”
