Students of Abrem Essiam AME Zion basic school, a sub community in the komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem(KEEA) Municipality of the central region, have called on the government through to the Ghana education service to come to their aid and address the myriad of challenges facing the school.

According to the students, the school has only three text books and as such, it becomes difficult for them to study, saying ” they sometimes learn in batches, as a result of the inadequate textbooks.

The students again said they resort to the bush, when nature calls and this is because “we don’t even have one toilet facility to ease ourselves”.

Again the students complained that whenever it rains “we have to close from school and go home and sometimes when it rains, we can’t cross the bridge leading to the school because it’s a death trap”.

The students disclosed this when Peace News’ Sally Ngissah visited the school to find out the challenges facing the school.

“The whole school has only one cupboard where we all keep our books, making teaching and learning difficult”, the students stressed.

The teachers on their part also emphasized that they have no staff common room.

“We sit under a makeshift huts covered with roofting sheet, we have no table to write on and the chair we sit on is made with bamboo.

Moreover the road to the school is bad and when it rains we find it difficult to climb the hill to the school. We fell so many times when it rained because the road was slippery”, the teachers disclosed.

They therefore called on the government and stakeholders to come to their aid to motivate them give off their best.

Headmistress of the school Mrs Patience Amoah Jefferson also appealed to stakeholders, NGOs, government among other benevolent organisations to pay attention to the plight of the school.

She maintained that, the school has been deprived of the national cake, saying, we could have a future president in this school “.
