In a bid to preserve and promote Ghanaian culture, Parliament has announced plans to introduce the use of local languages on the floor of the House.
Under Order 63 of the new Standing Orders, Members of Parliament (MPs) will be granted permission to utilize any of the local languages during proceedings. To ensure comprehension by all present, interpretation and translation services will be provided.
This initiative is slated to begin during the second meeting of the fourth session of the Eighth Parliament.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has affirmed that necessary arrangements will be made for the seamless implementation of this measure. This includes the provision of translators and appropriate gadgets.
The implementation of this new measure is expected to commence following the Easter break, marking a significant step towards the promotion and preservation of Ghanaian culture within the legislative framework.
