Identified Students in viral video insulting President face sanction [SEE LATEST UPDATE]

Five(5) students in a widely-circulated video seen and heard insulting President Akufo-Addo have identified as Form 2 students of Chiana Senior High School( SHS) in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.

Intelligence gathered by some state security institutions identified the students and consulted with the leadership of the school on the matter.

The students are Mariam GARIBA (Form 2 Science A);Amina ALI (Form 2 Home Economics B); Mariam Planger MATTEER (Form 2 Home Economics A); Janet NDANBIL (form 2 Home Economics A); and Patience ASAAH (form 2Arts B2).

According to information made available to the Director General, the Headmistress of Chiana SHS has initiated disciplinary action against the students even as investigations into the matter continue.

The viral video has received widespread condemnation from the public. Notwithstanding, others have blamed policies of the Government, headed by President Akufo-Addo, which have limited the authority of teachers with regards to ensuring discipline such as using corporal punishment.

Meanwhile the Ghana Education Service (GES) has apologised to President Akufo-Addo and the public on behalf of the students and the school.
