The New Juaben South municipal health Directorates has disclosed that their outfit in the year under review saw an increase in maternal deaths in the municipality.
Speaking at their Annual review Meeting held in koforidua, the Municipal Health director, Dr. Ekow Kaitoo said, maternal death in 2020 increased from 36 in 2019 to 60 in 2020 given maternal mortality rate of 912/100,000 live births.
He explained the unfortunate records is out of a slightly decrease of the ANC coverage from 84% in 2019 to 82.4% in 2020 also some husband are also not helping their wives in their Anti- Natal care.
Dr. Ekow Kaitoo called for a holistic approach to end this unfortunate incident when all stakeholders and players play their roles well.
The Medical Officer added that, the COVID-19 Pandemic also took away 17 persons out of 340 positive cases recorded in 2020 when it started.
He stated that currently in two months, that is from January 2021 to date, 21 persons have been lost out of 320 positive cases recorded, 76 Health workers were infected with 2 deaths only in New Juabeng South Municipality and 27 active cases are under treatment.
Therefore According to him, cumulatively from May 2020 to March 2021, 660 positive cases has been confirmed with 38 deaths.
Dr. Kaitoo added that, 12 positive cases has been recorded amongst students out of 30 suspects screened.
He admonished the public not lose guard and must adhere to the safety protocols.
He therefore raised concern on irregular and inadequate flow of funds for service delivery due to long delay by NHIA to reimburse facilities. NHIA owes most facilities for about 8 months and therefore urged NHIA to pay them immediately.
