COCOBOD bemoans over Cocoa farms been turned into Galamsey yard

The Western North Regional COCOBOD Manager, Mr.Kwame Owusu Ansah, has expressed that, he is very sad and worry about the numerous cocoa farmlands being sold and used as galamsey activities in the region, which Nananom, NGOs, Stakeholders, Cocoa farmers need to sensitize and address the menace.

Speaking with Kwame Kontor Boateng of Lord fm at Sefwi Bekwai, Mr. Kwame Owusu Ansah stated that the cocoa production has been the support of the Ghanaian economy which is aiding the social interventions of the development of the country and also as a tool use to fix the Ghanaian economy.

However the rate at which the galamsey activities are depleting the cocoa areas is unacceptable and needs urgent and proper sensitization and operation to halt it, he said.

Mr. Kwame Owusu Ansah warned the public ahead of possible repercussions to the country in the near future, and nananom being the custodian of the lands must resist galamsey menace.

He added that, COCOBOD will soon released an amount of Ghc11m in the coming weeks to settle debt of 7,519 weeding gangs, line and pegging, and rehabilitation workers.
