Ahafo/R: fair trade africa partners kukuom cocoa farmers to eradicate child-labour

Ahafo Region Fair trade partner Kukuom Cocoa farmers to eradicate child-labour in Cocoa farming.

Fair trade Africa has signed an MoU with Kukuom Cocoa Farmers Union to end child labour in cocoa growing communities in Asunafo South District of Ahafo region.

They identify some factors contributing to child labour as Communities with no Junior High School or lack of school, poverty, Community market days and communities with high capacity of cocoa production and harvesting.

Speaking at a launching of the program dubbed; “Youth Inclusive Community Based Monitoring and Remediation” (YICBMR) in Kukuom, Mr. Solomon Tawiah McBanasam, Fair trade Africa Country Focal Person on Child Protection said eradicating child labor in Cocoa production will reduce poverty level of cocoa farmers.

The President of Kukuom Cocoa Farmers Union,Nana Basua Kumanin said though the aim of the project is not against children in cocoa farming but hardzardous work.
