Agricultural Products from Ghana are the Most Preferred in Neighboring Countries- Dr. Akoto

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture was the Guest of Honour at the just ended Agogo Golden Plantain Festival to celebrate the second edition of the event with the people of the community. The event is to honour plantain farmers in the Asante Akyem Agogo Traditional Area.

The Chief, Nana Kwame Akuako Sarpong spoke highly of the government’s flagship programme Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) and my love for agriculture.

The programme is a collaboration between the Agogo Traditional Council and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA).

“I am overwhelmed with the showcase of events. The people of Asante Akyem Agogo are doing a great job in plantain production. It creates jobs and food in abundance for consumption internally and externally. Trading spreads as far as to Burkina Faso.

It is worthy to note that out of all the plantains on the Burkinabe market, plantain from Ghana is much preferred. As such, it enjoys an increase in price and gains on the market. This is a commendable initiative by the Chief and earns him an ambassadorial role as a PFJ ambassador.

The government of Ghana is facilitating the purchase of machinery under Mechanization service, one of the PFJ modules. The people of Agogo will receive their share of these equipment to further plantain production in the area”, Dr. Akoto noted.
