We Have Received Over 2,475 Complaints Against ECG And Gh. Water Company.
The Central Regional Manager of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) Madam Kesewaa Apenteng Addo has revealed that the Commission has received over 2475 complaints over the past two years from consumers against the Ghana water and the Electricity company of Ghanag in the central region, hence the adjustment made from the total complaints received is almost 18,000, which it has been given to the customers for wrongful billing.
She emphasised that it was such a worrying situation that needed to be addressed urgently.
Speaking at the PURC at 2 years in the central region Madam Apenteng Addo urged customer not to accept just anything, but rather they should come to PURC to lodge a complaint when something is wrong with their billing and poor services.
She underscored the need for consumers to know their rights when it comes to water and electricity bills so that they will not pay a wrongful billing, saying if a customer knows their rights they wouldn’t pay wrongful billing, instead they would petition PURC for the wrongful billing and find the way forward.
The Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr Ishmael Ackah on his part noted that the commission will be employing the use of technological device which will be inserted into the metres and the transformers as well as all the systems of Ghana water company to help detect faults.
Speaking in an interview with Peace News’Sally Ngissah he mentioned that the commission has sanctioned about five companies for ghc 48,000 each for a wrong doing.
“Now that we have a new law which is LI2413, we are going to enforces it as it will gives the PURC responsibilities and rights and also gives the consumers some responsibilities and rights.
Therefore if a consumer complains of a wrong doing and we investigate and find out that the fault is from water or Ecg we( PURC) will charge the you”, Dr Ackah stressed.
