Agric Minister Receives the Canadian Minister for International Development
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto on Tuesday, March, 14 2022 welcomed a Canadian Delegation led by the Minister for International Development, Rt Hon Harjit S. Sajjan to The Ministry Of Food And Agriculture, Ghana.
The Canadian government has been investing in the Agricultural sector of the country through a whole range of initiatives by our long standing relationship thus, the purpose of the visit was to update the Minister on recent developments in the Agricultural sector of Ghana.
Also, they spoke at lengths on ways Ghana and Canada can continue to collaborate as the Modernizing Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) programme, among other projects come to an end.
The Minister expressed his profound appreciation to the Minister and his government for supplementing the government’s efforts to transform the Agric sector.
Also, he took the opportunity to outline innovations the government is embarking on in Agriculture and appealed to his government to support ongoing projects through mechanization services.
They exchanged ideas, concepts and explored various ways ongoing and future projects that can benefit youth and women with proper use of the readily available natural resources.
The Rt Hon Harjit S. Sajjan on his part shared his view on the use of advanced technology and techniques to support small holder farmers for increased productivity. Again, he commended the Minister’s efforts for the tremendous progress made in Agriculture.
The Minister is hopeful to see the vision of both parties being realized in the Agricultural value chain in terms of proper use of land for farming, a working supply chain and export system, available food systems, economic opportunities, women and youth empowerment.
Present at the meeting was the Canadian High Commissioner, Members of Parliament of the Canadian government and some selected staff from my Ministry to include the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture (Crop production), my Technical Advisor, Director of Extension Services and representatives from Policy Planning, and Monitoring and Evaluation departments.
