The Minister responsible for health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu has revealed that many Ghanaian health professionals are leaving the shores of Ghana for other countries because of the lower salaries paid to them in Ghana.
The health minister described the development as a worrying situation. Mr. Agyeman Manu, Ghana’s Health Minister made the revelations in his address at the 5th anniversary of the GPHA International Maritime Hospital, IMaH, in Tema.
The health minister, Mr. Agyeman Manu also said, even in Ghana, health professionals move from one facility to the other depending on the slightest change in salary.
According to him, it was, for this reason, that the recruitment of workers to the University Ghana Medical Center was put on hold.
Still at the podium, Mr. Manu also revealed the government’s commitment and measures enrolled in positioning Ghana as Medical Tourist Country in Africa and also meeting the SDG goals on health.
Dr. Akwasi Afiriyie Acheampong, the CEO of the International Maritime Hospital, bemoans the low patronage of the facility although rated among the best in the world.
