Western North Region: Government Commissions Integrated Recycling And Compost Plant(IRECOP)

The Management of Zoomlion Ghana limited in collaboration with Western North Regional Coordinating Council has commissioned Sefwi wiawso Integrated Recycling and compost plant(IRECOP) which contains 400 tonnes of waste a day, for which the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo cut the sod for the construction on September 26, 2020 at Aboanidua a community within Sefwi wiawso of the Western North Region.

The ultra-modern solid waste recycling facility has the capacity to receive all sort of solid waste within the region and this facility will produce organic compost for agronomic purposes in the country and also recoverable materials such as plastic and metal scraps that will serve as input material for the steel and plastic industry.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Accra Recycle Compost plant managing Director for Jospon Group of Companies, Mr Micheal Tuwor said they are proud to witness the positive impact that the Integrated Recycling and compost plant (IRECOP) will have on our community, environment and the future generation and it is the reflection of Ghana commitment to achieve sustainable development growth.

He stated that it also contribute to a global agenda for creating a metal world for everyone and the transformation from a dumping site to a modern technology recycling plant.

The Sefwi wiawso municipal chief executive, Hon Louis Owusu Agyapong speaking on behalf of the Western North Regional Minister at the commissioning, stated that recycling a processing solid waste reduce the amount of waste to the dump site, conserving and minimizing the environmental impact. And this is going to serve the communities within Sefwi wiawso and Bibiani Anhwiaso -Bekwai municipality.

Additionally, it will improve the air and water quality and promote the wellbeing of the people of western north region and at the same time serve as ecotourism for other visitors and also provide jobs for the youth and women, both skilled and unskilled and other people along the value chain.

He expressed his appreciation to the president of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo for his commitment to environmental sanitation and also considering Western North Region for the establishment of this facility.

Lastly, in an interview with peace news, the Western North Regional Coordinator for zoomlion, Mr Isaac Bamfo said they will educate the good people of western north, the benefit of refuse and also how to dumped refuse into their bins without destroying the waste bins.
