lack of gov’t’s support collapsing our business, Ahafo potters lament
Potters who are into earthenware dish (Asanka) at Tanoso in the Tano North Municipal of Ahafo Region are worried over the decline of the business due to government’s lack of support.
Osei Kwadwo who have been in the asanka making business for years explained that gradually their business is collapsing because government has failed to give them any form of support to help improve their business which is a major concern to them.
According to him, scarcity of clay, high prices of clay even if they have access and low prices they received from women who come to them for purchase are the main contributing factors collapsing their business.
He mentioned, it will be proper for government to assist them with the supply of clay at moderate price and also provide them with modernised machines to reduce the stress they endure in making the asanka.
He further stated, they are equally contributing to Ghana’s development by employing both the youth and aged so it is unfair for government to deliberately neglect them.
According to him, their business has created employment for many people so it’s time government deem it relevant to address their challenges collapsing their business.
