KOFORIDUA: Mahama Reiterates His Position On Reviewing Free SHS Policy Implementation.

Former President Mahama Reiterate His Position On Reviewing Free Shs Policy Implementation.

The former President, John Dramani Mahama has revisited his earlier suggestion of reviewing the free Senior High School education implementation policy through the use of stakeholders conference to make the policy more better than what is today, since the current state of the policy has downgraded education and not sustainable.

The former President who was speaking at 8th Biennial delegates conference of the National Association of Private Schools in Koforidua in the Eastern region on the theme: Repositioning Private Schools in the Era of Digital Growth, said private schools has contributed immensely to the Ghana’s educational system and upliftment of the country’s socio-economic development in general, stating that, the pride of private schools in the country has been worsened to policies introduced by the government.

He added that, the country’s educational system has witnessed a downgrade due to the policies which were never thought and implemented by the Akuffo Addo led NPP government.

He however reiterated his earlier position on the review of the free Senior High School implementation to make the policy better and sustainable than its current state which has downgraded education in the country, pointing out that, his position on reviewing the policy should not be given an interpretation to mean cancellation.

The President of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools, Damasus Tuurosong disclosed that, the covid 19 pandemic has dealt with the private schools seriously especially the low fee paying ones as some of them are still going through difficulties and has not been able to survive. He added that, the current economic hardship situation has reduced enrollment since parents cannot afford to pay fees. He however appealed to the government for support.
