Dumsor destroyed all my home appliances- Opemsuo

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has lamented the recent power outages in the Ashanti Region.

He has, therefore, asked the Minister of Energy to urgently find a lasting solution to the problem.

According to the Asantehene, the erratic cut of power supply to households and businesses in the region is a discomforting experience, adding that the frequent power cuts have resulted in the damage of almost all his electrical appliances.

“For about three weeks to a month now, I know my son (Energy Minister) has been doing a lot of work, but I was there one time when there was a sudden cut of power, I try to rest and the power goes off, all my appliances have been destroyed.”

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, had paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene to explain why the Ashanti Region had been experiencing frequent power outages.

Dr Opoku Prempeh said the fallen telecom mast that collapsed two towers belonging to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) earlier in November this year, was to blame for the recent power outages.

However, he assured the Asantehene and residents in the region that he is working to find a lasting solution to the challenge.

“We are working assiduously on the GRIDCo lines that have fallen. We cannot lie to you, we are asking you to support us with your prayer and love, I have nowhere to go, I won’t sit idle for power in Kumasi to be toyed with. We have just encountered difficulty, but soon, it will all be resolved.”

The Asantehene further urged the Minister of Energy to expedite action on relocating the Ameri Power Plant to Kumasi.

GRIDCo explains the relocation of the 250 megawatts plant is to help stabilize the power situation in the central part of Ghana.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) had earlier warned of a possible load management across the country after a communication mast collapsed and fell on its 330kV Aboadze -Kumasi transmission line
