Cocoa Farmers Are Not Informed About The Management In The Cocoa Sector

Cocoa Farmers Are Not Informed About The Management In The Cocoa Sector – Mr Ackah.

Project lead for Send Ghana, Nana Kwesi Barning Ackah has underscored the need for cocoa farmers to be aware of the activities that go on in the sector.

He revealed that most cocoa farmers are not informed about the things that happen in the Sector, such as cocoa pricing and how it is regulated.

Mr Ackah disclosed this at a workshop on cocoa pricing and living income in cape coast.

He revealed that the European Union was about to enforce a law on deforestation which would affect the farmers, “saying we want the cocoa farmers to know about the coming law, to see the challenges the law will bring to cocoa farmers”. “This is because EU has decided not to buy cocoa from deforestated areas. They are trying to minimise the purchase of cocoa from deforestated areas, where forest are being destroyed.

He mentioned that the civil society organisation will continue to engage farmers and government when the new law is introduced.
