Fishing Ministry Chides Fisherfolks To Help Deal With Illegal Fishing Practice

Close Season Will Be In Vain If You Did Not Help Us To Deal With Illegal Fishing Practices – Hawa Koomson Chides Fisherfolks.

Minister of fisheries and acqua culture Mavis Hawa Koomson has said close season introduced by government to produced pumber harvest due to depleted sea will be in vain if fishermen continue with some bad fishing practices

Speaking to Appiah Danquah Rok fm,she stressed that government spent huge amount of money during close season just to booost fishing activities in the country but some illegal activities is making the work difficult for the fishing industry to thrive

She has therefore caution fishermen who engaged in such illegality like dynamite, ddt,small net,formalin among others to put a stop to it since they will soon be prosecuted and has urged fishmongers who buy fish from fishermen to stop buying such fishes to deterred them from doing that.

Hawa Koomson made this remarks when ministry of fisheries and acqua culture presented deep freezer fridges 200 pieces,wire mesh 700 pieces and basins1700 pieces to national fish processors and traders association western branch at ceremony in Sekondi Takoradi.

Western regional minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah called on the fisherfolks to support the ministry to be able to deal with people who engaged in illegal activities since it will go a long way to boost thier own business because it will increase bumper harvest.

Acting president of National Canoe and fishermen association Joojo Duncan urged fishermen to desist from party politics and face the reality since the close season has really been beneficial to fishermen despite all the noise surrounding it because fishermen are now enjoying bumper harvest.

Finally national president fish processors and trade association (NAFTPA) Regina Solomon said Hawa Koomson has been revelation for the fishing industry and called on the fishmongers to also do thier best to support the government to be able to deal with people engaging in illegal activities.
