The introduction of using Ghana card as tool for voting in 2024 general election has sparked concerns as uncalled for.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications officer in Tain Constituency, in the Bono Region, Mr. Nkrumah Abayie (Oga) says it is uncanny and will lead to resist any attempt by the Electoral Commission to use the Ghana as a sole identification document for voters ahead of the 2024 elections.
In July, the EC placed before Parliament a draft C.I titled: Public Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2021, which is expected to regulate continuous voter registration.
Per the new C.I, according to the EC is seeking to make the Ghana Card the sole form of identification for prospective voters.
In a statement made by the communications officer for the NDC in Tain, Mr. Nkrumah on Tain FM Anopa Nkommo show with Appiah Kubi said, will be sober to reject any such attempt by the electoral commission.
The party officer used the opportunity given to opine on the EC’s statement; ‘ _no Ghana card, no voting’_ , to remind the Electoral Commission on Ghana’s constitution, under Article 42 of the 1992 Constitution that every Ghanaian of eighteen years and above and of sound mind is entitled to register as a voter for the purposes of elections, therefore the EC should not try to use any means to disenfranchises who qualifies to vote.
“I wish to assure Ghanaians that the NDC will not sit aloof for the Electoral Commission to inflict more pain and hardships in the 2024 elections, therefore urging our agitated supporters to remain calm as we take all legitimate and appropriate steps to ensure that they are not disenfranchised”, he reiterated.
Oga also agitated that the call by the EC will be obliterated or inhibit the idea of using the Ghana Card as the sole identification document.
