GES Directorate Expresses Concern Over Lacks Labraries To Improve Pupils Reading SkillS

AHAFO LACKS LABRARIES TO IMPROVE PUPILS READING SKILLS, REGIONAL EDUCATION DIRECTORATE EXPRESSES CONCERN

The Ahafo Regional Director of Education, Lucy Ama Ankrah has expressed concern over school children inability to improve their reading skills due to inadequate library facilities in the region, and has called for help.

She said this at Ahafo Acherensua during the Ahafo Regional Reading Festival organised by the Ghana Education Service and USAID in Twi and English Languages for Primary 1, 2 and 3 pupils in the region under the themed ” Read To Get Knowledge ” , and explained that school children in Ahafo Region are unable to excel properly in reading all because libraries are not many which is worring to GES.

According to her, even the few existing ones in the region are not properly functioning as all expect in the sense that they have been closed most often and also they are not equipped with books to streamline children’s education.

She emphasized that because the few existing ones in the region are often closed and also lack books, school children are not gingered to access them but instead used their leisure time to play.

Acherensua Akyempimhene Nana Aduse – Poku who chaired the Regional Reading Festival urged parents to see it relevant to buy books for their wards to help improve their studies rather than them using their monies to buy unnecessary things.

He said, the habit where parents of children in public schools do not fancy in buying books as compared to parents whose wards are in private schools must stop because reading is so relevant in children’s education. He said, it’s time parents in Ahafo invest well in books buying for their wards.
