A/R: Old Tafo-Pankrono Municipal Assembly Embarks On Community Engagement Tour, Inspects Ongoing Projects

The Old Tafo-Pankrono Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region led by, the Chief Executive, Hon Lord Inusah Lansah, is embarking on a 5-day working visit to engage residents and workers/traders and to also inspect already initiated ongoing projects in the Municipality.

The familiarisation tour was began on Monday and is expected to end on Friday, areas that would be visited are Chief palaces, Market places, Schools, Traders and Drivers Unions and inspection of ongoing projects within the municipality.

The purpose of the engagement is to provide a platform for key stakeholders to critically identify their key concerns and challenges and to initiate or adopt a mitigation strategies on the various challenges.

This is the first familiarisation tour the chief executive has embarked upon, since he was appointed by President Akufo-Addo last year and subsequently elected by the Assembly to steer the affairs of the Assembly.

It is to bring local governance to the doorstep of the people and to listen to the problems of the people, towns and unions in the municipality.

The major problems facing these communities and traders include poor roads network, poor drainage system, security system, heavy road traffic issues, street lights and many more.

Some of the areas that have been visited so far include; Kumasi Garages (magazine), Moro market, Tafo government hospital, Pankrono & Atafoa Chief palace.

Other areas are, Pankrono market, Drivers Unions, inspection of ongoing Pankrono hospital project, inspection of ongoing Abed roads network etc.

Subsequent visit would be Tafo Chief palace, Tafo market, Trinity hospital, and inspection of other still ongoing projects.

Addressing the Chiefs and the People, Hon. Lord Inusah Lansah expressed a great deal of gratitude on behalf of the President, Akufo-Addo and entire NPP to the community for their immense support during the 2020 general elections which brought the party into power.

He however, urged the chiefs and people of the area to come together to help the government in all spheres of endeavours for developmental goals as the government cannot do it alone.

Mr Inusah Lansah used the occasion to appeal to the chiefs and people to nurture peace and at all circumstances should create peaceful atmosphere.

At a visit to the Pankrono Health Center which doubles the Municipal Health Directorate after the Director of Health Services, Mad Faustina Osei Mensah’ welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive assured the people and staffs that the facility will soon receive befitting facelift and when completed will be lifted into hospital status.

At the engagement with the Executives of the Garages, the Ashanti regional vice chairman for Ghana association of Garages, Mr Lukman Mohammed Appiadu appealed for hospital, fire tender and ambulance vehicles for quick response to emergencies.

Some of the drivers union particularly those at the Atimatim-Junction lorry terminal complained about the deplorable nature of their roads, drainage issues and unauthorized packing, stopping and loading of passengers on the highway by Trotro Drivers causing routine huge traffic on the stretch.

The market traders also complained about thievery at the market therefore pleaded for lights, security and fires extinguishers to prevent any possible outbreak.

The Municipal Chief Executive upon responding to the requests assured the people to work assiduously to address the various challenges as their concerns have been noted.

He therefore admonished the traders and the unions to be law-abiding and fulfill all their tax commitments to the municipal assembly and government as a whole.

Mr Lord Inusah Lansah told the Atimatim-Junction drivers union that the assembly is set to construct ultra modern lorry terminal for them but it is waiting for the government’s design of dualization of Suame roundabout to Aboaso stretch.

He also presented street lights as apart of his visit to the people. Beneficiaries were, Garages, Moro market traders and other darkened places.

The MCE was accompanied by staff of the Assembly, Assembly members, Unit committee members and the media.
