Motorbikes killing more people than cars in Bono East unacceptable – NRSA to tackle Riders in 2022

Mr. Acheampong-Parry Emmanuel, Bono East Regional Head of National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has observed that it is unacceptable for Motorbikes that are to carry not more than 3 people to cause over 60% of road accident deaths even more than private and passenger cars in the year 2021.

Giving account of road accidents situation in an interview with Peace News correspondent Nana Kwadwo Adu in Techiman, Mr. Acheampong-Parry revealed that the Bono East Regional NRSA in 2021 recorded a total of 288 accidents involving 537 vehicles which resulted to 129 deaths.

He gave the breakdown as follows; Vehicles involved in accidents – Commercial (254), Private (81), Motorbikes (202), Pedestrian knockdowns (65), Persons Injured (383), Deaths – Commercial (26), Private (18) and Motorbikes (85)

It is in this direction that the NRSA in the year 2022 has vowed to partner the Police MTTD, DVLA and other Stakeholders in road safety to target Motor, Pragia and Aboboyaa Riders in Bono East in order to bring this menace that poses serious danger to the lives of the good people of the region to a halt as quickly as possible.

Mr. Acheampong-Parry concluded that accident cases in the Bono East region for the year 2021 generally saw a slight increase as against the previous year 2020 which is very worrisome despite the several educational programs but they will continue working harder to see a drastic reduction in the coming years.
