People of Dumanafo, near Mamponteng in the Kwabere East Municipality of the Ashanti Region are in fear after unknown assailants abscised a corpse that had been laid in state awaiting burial.
This barbaric incident by the suspects who are still not been identified, cut off the left hands of the corpse and did not only made away with it but also proceeded and covered casket pit for reasons only known to them.
The funeral parade for the deceased, Clement Osei Kofi, 38, popularly known as “Wo pae bi a, W’adi” was pulsed when the family discovered the missing hand at midnight on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
The Head of the Ntoahre Family who doubles the caretaker of Anokye Boabuduro idols, Nana Yaw Frimpong confirming the unprecedented incident to Hello Fm and Despite media’s Rexkin Ohene Boateng said the family quickly informed the traditional authority in the community upon which necessary purification was done before they could buried the stiff.
According to him, his family members were careless for not able to watch overnight however he is of the trust that their gods will hunt the perpetrators and bring justice and honor to not only the deceased but also the family and the Dumanafo community as a whole.
Osei Kofi, a brother to the deceased, disclosed that from the
mortuary and after the decoration of laying in state his brother had all his body parts correct which according to him the decorators even showed to them in a video whilst the family sat beside the body for couple of hours before leaving.
He said most of his family members kept wake, felt tired and went asleep leaving the corpse alone outside, adding that they woke up in the morning to open for the public when they discovered that the bed on which they laid their brother had been changed in its original position with his head turned down and legs hung up. After a thorough check of the body, they saw his left hand was removed and missen.
The mysterious case was reported to the Mamponteng police for investigation.
Meanwhile, some residents suspect foul play, alleging that the deceased might have belonged to a secret society without the family’s knowledge.
Currently, there have been no arrest by the police and the body has been buried, after performing every rites ordered according to customs and tradition of Dumanafo traditional area led by Nana Owusu Kwarteng.
