Bui Sugar Factory: Bui Power Authority releases hectares of land to plant sugarcane ~ DCE

Bui Power Authority released 16000 hectares of land to plant sugarcane to feed Bui sugar factory in Banda – Banda DCE.

The Banda District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Bono Region, Emmanuel Akone, has disclosed that the Bui Power Authority (BPA) has released a total of 16,000 hectares of land for the production of sugarcane to feed the Bui Sugar Factory Limited in the district.

“BPA has given out part of the land they took from the chiefs of Banda to the investors, Bui Sugar Factory Limited for this flagship project” he stated.

He said so far, 125 hectares of the land have been ploughed whilst sugarcane has been planted on 50 hectares out of the 125 ploughed land.

Emmanuel Akone made this known in an interview with Addai Mununkum at Wenchi, stating everything is being done to ensure the needed raw materials are available before building the factory structures.

This, according him will avoid insufficient or irregular supply of sugarcane that will jeopardize the production capacity of the factory.

The Banda DCE was optimistic that the sugarcane farm will be able to supply the factory all year round when it begins operations.

He further explained that there is an irrigation dam that will provide water to feed the sugarcane farms.

“The most interesting part of this project is that when completed, the factory will produce sugar whilst the by-products will be used to manufacture ethanol and fertilizer and will also create me employment as currently the Factory has employed 301 people to work on their sugarcane farm” the DCE added.
