VP. Opoku-Agyemang Extols Ghana-China Ties at Sunon Asogli Chinese New Year Celebration

Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening its enduring partnership with China, as she joined the 2026 Sunon Asogli Chinese New Year celebration.

In a resounding endorsement of the bilateral relationship, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang declared, “Development is not built by infrastructure alone, but also by people, cultures, and mutual respect.” She emphasized that Ghana’s partnership with China is anchored in clarity of purpose, accountability, and alignment with national development priorities.

The Vice President lauded the Sunon Asogli Thermal Power Station’s crucial role in bolstering Ghana’s energy supply, particularly during periods of power challenges.

“We particularly appreciate the role of the Sunon Asogli Thermal Power Station in strengthening Ghana’s energy supply,” she stated.

As Ghana forges ahead with industrialization and economic resilience, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the country’s openness to partnerships that are “transparent, fair, and mutually beneficial”.

In her New Year message, she expressed confidence in Ghana’s direction, stating,

“Ghana continues to face the new year with confidence in the direction, and we look forward to a future marked by tangible results, stronger institutions, resilient infrastructure, and shared prosperity.”

She extended her warm wishes to the Chinese community, saying, “Happy New Year, and congratulations to all”
