Aggrived cocoa farmers calls on government to save their Cocoa farms.
Livelihoods of hundreds of cocoa farmers and residents of Afranse Yaw Tano in the West Akim district of the Eastern region has been threatened by cutting and grading down of their crops especially Cocoa farms for a replacement of passion fruits.
The aggrived farmers in a peaceful demonstration registered their plights, alleged that the chiefs are selling the farm lands to foreigners to plant passion fruits hence the cutting down of their crops without any official notice or compensations.
Victims speaking to Jesse Amankwah of UTV said cocoa farming is the only source of livelihood in the area with most youth engagement.
They are therefore calling on government to intervene and seize the action immediately to save the residents from future hunger.
Mr.Adu Essel Sampson, the president of West Akim Cocoa Farmers And Marketing Union whose members were highly affected pleaded the authorities to intervene the unfortunate incident.
He further explained how essential cocoa is to the economy, the future of Ghana without Cocoa and the future of the farmers whose lands has been taken from them.
The disgruntled Farmers shared their agitations with the media, talking about no alternative source of work, how they will feed their families and survival without their farms.
