The Omanhene of Ejura Traditional Council in the Ashanti region, Berima Osei Hwedie II has today inaugurated security task force to end the activities of illegal chainsaw operators in their Traditional area.
According to him it is time to protect the natural resources for the benefit of future generation. He charged the task force to make sure that anyone who violate the measures are put before the law to take its cause.
The Traditional Leader lamented over the illegal unrestrained cutting down of trees at the area which during climate change adversely affects the farmers and people residing at the area.
The security task force formed includes the Personnels from Police Service, Immegration Service, Prison Service, Forestry Officers, Fire Service Personnels, NADMO etc.
Berima Osei Hwedie II, turned to caution some of the Forestry Officers who are allegedly involves themselves in illegal chainsaw operation to desist from that as they will equally be prosecuted when caught and those Officer'(s) punishment will serve as a deterrent for others.
He Spoke to heroesghnews.com at a press conference at Ejura on Wednesday.
The Municipal Police Commander, DSP Philip Kwadwo Hammond who is the Chairman of the task force also assured the chiefs that they are going to do their work into the satisfaction of the Chiefs.
Forestry Commission as part of their measures to clamp down the activities of illegal felling of lumbers from its various Forest Reserves.
The Commission has also appealed to traditional leaders and the general public to help the Forestry commission to combat every illegal operators so as to reserve the forest and natural resources for future generation.
