Accra: “Homowo Festival is a Reflection Of Our Rich Cultural Heritage” ~ Deputy Local Gov’t Minister

Hon Lawyer Vincent Ekow Assafuah the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development has asserted that the Homowo Festival is not just a celebration but a reflection of their rich cultural heritage which symbolizes resilience and the spirit of community.

Hon Vincent Ekow Assafuah Esq. who also is the current Member of Parliament in Old Tafo-Pankrono Constituency under the ticket of ruling New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti region made this pronouncement during the launching of Homowo Clean-Up Exercise which forms part of the activities leading to the Homowo Festival on Friday.

He said in his speech that, that initiative, supported by the MLGDRD, was aimed at making Accra clean and tidy in preparation for the celebration of the festival.

Quoting the adage “Cleanliness is next to Godliness,” the Legislator said that it was in that vein that they were calling on all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to join hands in their quest to make that exercise successful.

The Deputy Minister assured that the Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development Ministry is committed to providing resources to all MMDAs to keep their cities clean and attractive, complementing Government’s efforts in that direction.

According to him, they have seen significant efforts, especially the campaign on “Clean your Frontage” led by the current Minister of the Interior and former Greater Accra Regional Minister. “The Ministry wishes to identify with this laudable initiative and commit to fully supporting the Homowo Clean-Up Exercise” He said.

Hon Vincent Ekow Assafuah Esq. commended the leadership of His Majesty, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, for his commitment to keeping Accra clean and healthy during this celebration.

On behalf of the Minister and the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, and our Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, we assure you of our utmost support in this endeavor” He maintained.

“Cleanliness and sanitation are integral to national development. Our efforts in maintaining a clean environment contribute to public health, tourism, and overall quality of life. The Ministry is dedicated to ensuring that these initiatives are sustained and expanded” a section of his speech reads.

He therefore encourage all citizens, traditional leaders, and community groups to actively participate in the Homowo Clean-Up Exercise.
