A/R, Kwabre East: Asante and Zongo Youth At Mamponteng Clash, Several Sustain Injuries. [Photos/Video]

Mamponteng Asante and Zongo Youth Clash.

Several Individuals have been injured following a violent clash between two youth groups at Mamponteng in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Security personnel had to be deployed to the area to avert reprisal attack from any of the feuding groups.

Three persons have sustained life-threatening injuries whilst five others have minor machete wounds.

Several properties have also dismantled as a result of the clash. Residents say there have been a long standing rivalry between the two but expressed shock about the lastest clash.

” On Friday evening, December 24, at about 8pm, Mohammed Zakui was attacked and robbed at Abesenase by two individuals when he stepped out to buy food, He sustained multiple machete wounds on his face and some other parts of his body. This angered some zongo youth, who also stormed the area and started attacking residents leading to the injury of two. On Monday evening, December 27 the two groups clash again but the police intervened swiftly to maintain the order” Assembly Man for Bronum electoral area Yaminu Suleiman told 3news.

One of the victim has been treated and discharged but lost left eye whilst two others are in severe condition at Methodist Faith Hospital at Ankase.

The Mamponteng police has met with the leadership of the two Communities to find lasting peace to the clash.

The Police intense to patrol the two Communities every evening and night until absolute peace returns. The police however is on a manhunt of the suspects.

As at the time of filing this report, at least three police patrol vehicles have been stationed in the Mamponteng Community to maintain calm as some youth are roaming in the community armed and ready to attack their opponent.

Meanwhile, the assembly member of the Abesenase electoral area, Hon. Baffour Ampadu-Kyere has rejected the claims by the Bronum assembly man stating that the Mohammed Zakui wanted to snatch a mobile phone from a guy who was on phone call which resulted to the attack as the owner of the phone raised alarm.

Hon Ampadu has made urgent announcement urging his people to remain indoors to protecting themselves from any harm as efforts made to the police to call for reinforcement proved futile.

However, the residents are now leaving in fear and calling for military partnership with the police in the town now.
