A/R; AKSD: Dr. APC descends on robbery issues, Chief halts wake keeping

Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly as part of its measures to clamp down robberies and criminalities in the District has stormed Aboaso-Hemang-Ankaase
stretch to find lasting solution to the rampant robbery on the road.

Residents especially passengers, drivers and traders at Hemang, Ankaase, Ejuratia and Mpobi in the Afigya Kwabre South District in the Ashanti region are crying bitterly over insecurity and persistent robbery on the road which had led to the demise of one health worker at the Ankaase methodist hospital.

Following the night rampant armed attacks on that route, the District Assembly and its security apparatus together with Chiefs and people in the four Communities have set a proactive measures to mitigate the barbarous.

The District Chief Executive DCE, Hon. Dr. Adu-Poku Christian addressing the people assured them that the adverse of crime and robbery is going to be a thing of the past due to strict measures been put in place.

The Chief Executive together with the District Security forces used the period to revived and re-inaugurated the collapsed community watch-dog volunteer Committee to erectile.

They equipped them with accoutrements and also took them through a comprehensive training to be able to descend and combat those armed perpetrators (robbers). The people were also charged an amount of GHC 2 contribution to be used to support and motivate the volunteers.

Speaking on the deplorable nature of the roads from Hemang to Ankaase which as a result enable the armed robbers to hide in the bush and attack the stretch users, Hon. Dr. APC mentioned that the ongoing construction and refurbishment of the lane will not only ease transportation challenge but will as well curb the insecurity, adding that the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and its government through the Assembly has good plans and thoughts for every Community in the District therefore they should calm their nerves and support the government.

The Odikro of Ankaase Traditional area, Nana Kwadwo Akwaboah called on his people and abolished funeral all night celebrations populary known as “wake keeping” in the Community due its mass implications.

He explained that, wake keeping is put to halt because of the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy and social vices among the young school going girls and the youth.

According to Nana Kwadwo Akwaboah young ladies are seen late at night with elders at corners doin the thing all because of wake keeping whilst their parents are deeply asleep.

He urged every family head in the community to comply with the rules to avoid been swallowed by the traditional customs and laws of the land and the Country respectively.

Meanwhile some women in/at the Ankaase Market who earned the opportunity when the Chief Executive and the team stormed the market place and provided them with covid-19 Protection and Preventive Equipments PPEs praised the government for the effort used to contain the spread of the novel pandemic.

They bemoaned over the obsolete state of the market which impose numerous threat on them.

They therefore appealed for face-lift with modern facilities and fence wall for the market.
