“Let’s Deepen Women Encouragement in Local Governance Participation” ~ NALAG President.

Nana Agyemang Prempeh, the president of National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) who also doubles as the Director General of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has joined the call for the need to deepen the encouragement of more women to participate in the local governance of our political hierarchy.

According to the ‘NALAG’ president, there is a general perception in Africa that women should not take up leadership positions but rather should sit back whilst the men dominate in most leadership positions, this he said does not help to develop a country considering the fact that women in leadership positions outside Africa are contributing immensely to the development of their country.

Nana Agyemang Prempeh further stressed that it’s high time Ghanaians rally behind women who are into politics and support and encourage them that women are capable of becoming a president in the country therefore the need for us to tilt our votes towards women who stands for any position in politics.

Nana Agyemang Prempeh said this in an interview with the media during the maiden edition of NALAG Regional Capacity Building Training For Female Assembly Members in Koforidua.

The training is inline with the Sustainable Development Goal SDG 5.5 which says Ensure Women’s Full and Effective Participation and Equal Opportunities for Leadership at All Levels Decision Making in Politics, Economic and Public Life.

In addition, he called on parliament to expedite actions towards the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill into law to help increase or promote women participation and representation in decision making space.

Meanwhile, Hon Gladys Otai Addo Osei , the NALAG women representative who is also the assembly woman of Obgojo electoral area added that the delay in passing the Affirmative Action Bill in parliament is of great concern to every woman therefore she urged that the necessary action should be taken and make sure the bill is passed.

She continued to explain that the current number of women representative in Ghana’s politics is not all that encouraging hence accounting to low percentage of women in leadership therefore she urged that there should be fairness and gender equality regarding women in leadership in Ghana.
