Govt cannot improve STEM without Chemistry – UENR Vice Chancellor advises government

Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources at Fiapre, near Sunyani in the Bono Region has called on government to ensure smooth operations of chemistry and science courses to enable more senior high students to develop interest in the STEM courses.

This according to him, would motivate students who are into chemistry aspect of academia.

Prof. Asare Bediako said this in an interview with Nana Asempa Asa at maiden Chemical Festival opened at the University of Energy and Natural Resources.

The first ever American Chemical Society (ACS) chapter together with Academic institution opens UENR Chapter of American Chemical Society at the University at Fiapre, near Sunyani-Bono region.

The Faculty Advisor, International Students chapter, American Chapter Society at the University of Energy and Natural Resources Dr. Ismaila Emahi says the faculty meant to eliminate from the students “Chemistry Phobia” altitude hidden many talents in many Ghanaian students.

He was worried that Ghana Chemical Society is dwindling but the image could be rise again with the efforts of the University.

He appealed to government to provide the University with logistics to help upgrade the level of Chemistry in Ghana.
