Kwabre East: Mamponteng Water Board Supplies Waste Bin To Eradicate Filt, Urges Gov’t To Adopt Strict Measures To Promote Healthy Environment.

In order to reduce the quantum of waste in the country, Mamponteng water board in the Kwabre East municipal has distributed waste bins for basic schools, market places and lorry terminals at Mamponteng in the Ashanti region.

Public settings, such as schools market places, hospitals and correctional facilities can play a key role in ensuring healthy environment and helping prevent diseases and mortalities.

Addressing the media at a short ceremony to handover the 24 buckets worth gh¢6000 waste bins at Mamponteng on Tuesday, the Board chairman of Mamponteng water and sanitation who also a senior lecturer at the maths department at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology KNUST, Dr Baah Gyamfi urged government to adopt strict measures to promote healthy environment.

He added that the distribution of the waste bins would help reduce the level of wastes in the municipality and also encouraged the beneficiaries to properly use of the items.

However, receiving the gesture for the beneficiaries, the chief executive for Kwabre east municipal assembly, Hon Opoku Agyemang expressed profound gratitude and also acknowledged the management of Mamponteng water board for the initiative.

He said it was in the plans of the government to ensure that issues like sanitation and deplorable roads in the municipality are fixed in a shortest possible time.

On his part, the chief of Mamponteng traditional area, Nana Saasi Ayebiafo who was represented by the Akwamuhene, Nana Asiamah Ameyaw recommended the board for a good job done and urged the beneficiary schools to use the dustbins wisely to improve the sanitation situation in the community.

He stated that the chief and his elders are aware of the numerous activities the board is doing for the community and assured the board that they are solidly behind them so whenever there is a problem, they shouldn’t hesitate to let him know.

Some of the beneficiaries speaking to this news portal were over excited, they said “We are very happy to get these Bins and we wish to thank the watsan board for the the gesture”

According to them the waste bins will go a long way in helping them offload their wastes and also help prevent cholera in their community.
