Coronavirus A/R: OTMA, MP embark on PPEs distribution

The Old Tafo Pankrono Municipal Assembly together with the Member of Parliament, Hon Vincent Ekow Assefuah have begun distributing Protective Protection Equipment (PPEs) in the Municipality as part of measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in this new Variants.

The distribution has been demarcated into 3 phases, the first phase which took off on Thursday were all the lorry terminals in the Municipality from Pankrono-Atimatim Junction down to new road junction and Moromarkets.

It has been recalled that due to the surge in this second wave of the covid-19 pandemic, Ghana Government and the Health Service are making every effort to combat the spread, agencies, institutions have launched taskforces which include all the security apparatus in the country to enforce everyone to adhere to all protocol measures.

In an interview the Municipal Chief Executive MCE, for Old Tafo, Hon. Dr. Fred Obeng Owusu mentioned that the Member of Parliament, Hon Vincent Ekow Assefuah who with his auspices will join the team in the subsequent phases which will also take off on Saturday.

He further explained that, whilst the phase 2 will be held in all denominational churches in the Municipality, the last climax phase will be at market places where optional speeches shall be held.

Ghana is currently experiencing another wave of COVID-19 infections.

The country has over 4,000 active cases and 390 deaths as of the latest update by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

This has led to pressure on health facilities in the country.

The Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central and Western regions are leading with high number of active cases.

The Africa Center for Disease Control (CDC) has also confirmed Ghana as amongst countries on the continent where the new variant is spreading.

It said, although it doesn’t readily have a full appreciation of the extent of spread of the new variants in Africa, it had confirmed that the 501Y.V2 variant which was first discovered in South Africa, is currently spread in 22 countries across the world including Ghana in a statement issued.
