Kwabre East Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region has embarked on a decongestion and demolition exercise at some parts of the municipality on Friday, following numerous served notice and announcements cautioning traders who have occupied in the roads and pavements with containers and structures.
The aim was to create a clean, orderly and business-friendly environment and as well to make way for contractors who are yet to begin works on various government developmental projects such as the construction of roads and markets.
The Municipal Chief Executive MCE, Hon Joseph Amankwah in an interview with newsmen disclosed that the decongestion exercise was inline with the Assembly’s resolution which has been in a existence for years and per the recommendations from the Municipal Security Council MUSEC, that roadsides trading is possing a serious security threat in the municipality, hence the action been taken place.
The Chief Executive unveiled to newsmen that, the exercise was part of a broader rebranding and urban renewal however the numerous notice and announcements by the Assembly to the traders cautioning them ahead of such impending demolition proved futile.

“The decongestion and demolition exercise by the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly was not meant to intimidate traders, but trading on pedestrian walkways and roads poses a significant danger to both traders and commuters” ~ The MCE pointed.
Hon. Chief Amankwah pleaded the traders to set aside partisanship and join forces in reshaping the narrative around Kwabre East.
“Let us stop the pervasive pull-him-down mentality and support the course of making Kwabre East great” ~ He stated.
The exercise began at Mamponteng the Municipal capital and expected to also take place in areas such as Ntonso, Aboaso and Fawoade. The rest include Meduma, Ahwiaa, Asenua, Kenyase and Abirem.

“The demolition team led by the Assembly’s road Engineers ensured that every unauthorised structures, containers and traders who fall within the terrain were ejected.
