The Eastern Regional Youth wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC, wants Former President John Dramani Mahama to change his running mate ahead of the 2024 general election.

The Regional Youth Organizer Richard Etornam Nyarko says similar decisions in the past helped maximized chances of the party to win power.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast also a former Minister of Education was the running mate for John Dramani Mahama in 2020 Presidential election which saw the party defeated with 47.36% votes against 51.30% votes secured by incumbent President Nana Akufo Addo.

However, Speaking to the peace fm news reporter Michael Akrofi at Koforidua Technical University during General Meeting by the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC, Richard Etornam Nyarko justified his call for change of running mate stating that “there are records to that, in 2000 President Mills of blessed memory brought Martin Amidu, in 2004 was changed with Dr. Mumuni, in 2008 it was President Mahama, there was no repetition of a running mates even though I am not trying to preempt the President but we are only trying to pick our minds and I think that if a new person is appointed as the running mate and the person is already on the grounds is fantastic for the NDC to win”

He added that the youth needs someone who understands the ideology of the NDC and inspires hope for youth of Ghana.

Richard Etornam Nyarko disclosed that, it is the wish of the youth wing of the NDC for former Chief of staff Julius Debrah to be appointed running mate by John Dramani Mahama .
