Sefwi Bekwai: Heavy Rainstorm Injures 15 Students, Several Others Displaced

A rainstorm that hit Sefwi Bekwai township in the Bibiani Ahwianso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, has injured 15 students of Sefwi Bekwai Senior High School.

The storm also destroyed Lord FM 107.1, a local radio station pole, Sefwi Bekwai health centre and some residents homeless.

The less than an hour rainstorm on Wednesday evening, March 29, 2023 ripped off many houses and electric poles, leaving some parents and guardians into a state of panic and shock quickly converged at the main entrance of the Sefwi Bekwai Senior High School to check on their wards.

According to the Assembly Member for the Post Office Square Electoral Area, in an interview with Lord FM News, Hon. Eric Oduro a.k.a Awain explained that the rainstorm that ravaged parts of Sefwi Bekwai Wednesday evening has ripped roofs off by the storm that started about 6:00pm and lasted for an hour, has hit the temporal structure that students of Sefwi Bekwai Senior High School (SEBESS) used to buy food and served themselves so he should rush to the place and help rescue the affected students.

“So, I immediately reported to the scene and saw the temporal structure hit by the storm and quickly together with some of school teachers rushed the 15 students to Greenshield hospital for treatment, though because of panic and fear the students were amazed and could not control themselves. And I want to appeal to the general public, especially the residents of Sefwi Bekwai not to spread false rumors in town but rather would to state it emphatically clear that the students are safe and those injured are responding to treatment”.

Some parents and guardians who heard the news about the storm hitting the school and causing injuries to the students converged at the school main entrance to check on their wards but were denied by the school authorities, spoke to the Media.

The administrator of Greenshield hospital, Mr. Paul Amoah, confirmed to the media that they received 15 victims around 7pm which fourteen are females and one male which they are all responding to the minor injuries, and then used the medium to appealed to all parents and guardians to stay calm since their wards are in safe condition and there’s no casualty.
