“We Have Capacity To Produce Rice for The Country” ~ Regional Minister

Central regional minister Mrs Justina Marigold Assan has assured Ghanaians about the readiness of the central region to produce more food for the country.

She revealed the region has the capacity to produce enough rice to feed central region as well as the whole country, hence, the Prez’s intention to end the importation of rice is a step in the right direction.

Mrs Assan made the remarks when the minister for food and agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto paid an official visit to the region to inspect some ongoing rice projects and also interact with the departmental heads.

Speaking in an interview with Peace News’Sally Ngissah, she commended the people of South Korea for the rice production initiative in the country and urged them to extend the production to other districts in the central region in other to produce more rice, so, to reduce expensive of food in the country.

Minister for food and agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto on his part observed that the growth that the country is seeing in the last few years is not a “nine- day” wonder, saying “It is going to be sustained to enable this region to take its rightful place in the hall of regional agriculture in this country, so to make it a leading place for other regions to copy.
