Promoting Culture and Tourism: Kwabre East Municipal Assembly To Revamp Annual Anwenie Festival, Sets To Institute Cultural Day ~ MCE

In order to promote culture and tourism, the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region has expressed the significance of displaying the rich culture and heritage of the Municipality and therefore has endorsed the recommendation for the Assembly to institute cultural day.

Deliberating a report of the Executive Committee of the last general Assembly meeting to discuss 2023 fee fixing, composite budget and the annual action plan, the Assembly members instituted every last Friday in the month of June as a Municipal Cultural Day for Kwabre East.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu noted that the Kwabre Anwenie festival that was initiated by his predecessor, Hon Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu has been properly taken care of, and beefed up to celebrate the festival, indicating that he has engaged with the key actors of Anwenie festival committee and hoping to see limelight of the yearly festival.

In his report, the Chief Executive underscored the economic value of promoting culture and tourism and therefore requested the general Assembly to identify the tourist sites and refurbish deplorable craft centres in the municipality to make it operational.

Opoku Agyemang Bonsu, MCE Kwabre East

Touching on robbery and social vices in the Municipality, Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu stated in his report that, though the Pragya tricycle Operators appear to be faster and low rate, however they have no serious regulatory framework governing their influx and riding.

According to him, most riders are underage so their activities cause traffic jams on the highway. Aside their reckless driving, some of the operators are alleged to have been engaged in robbery and other social vices in the municipality.

He therefore said the Assembly and the Municipal Police Command have taken measures to regulate their prices and activities arrest and prosecute flouters.

With regard to the 2023 Composite Budget, the MCE stated in his report that the Budget Officer presented the draft Composite Budget covering the DACF, GOG Compensation, Goods and Services, DACF/RIG, donor funded programmes, IGF and Ghana Secondary Cities Programme Grant amounting to GH¢65, 530.263.31 with its corresponding estimated expenditure of GH¢65, 530.263.31.
