The Ghana Police Service has announced that it has invited Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and television presenter based in Kumasi, to assist with investigations concerning the disseminating of false information about the upcoming general election on 7th December.

The invitation is linked to an incident involving a video circulating on social media.

According to a police statement, the video shows Oheneba Nana Asiedu in the studios of Wontumi FM in Kumasi, where he is seen encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days.

The authorities have highlighted that this information is misleading and does not reflect the election procedures.

The Police described the statement made in the video as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

They expressed concern over the potential consequences of such misinformation, stressing that it could disrupt the election process and create unnecessary confusion among the electorate.

In their statement, the Police urged the public, especially media professionals, to act cautiously and responsibly when disseminating information.

They called for restraint in the publication of any news that could be false or lead to a disturbance of public peace, reminding media practitioners of their duty to ensure accurate and responsible reporting.
