The National Chairmanship Search ~ By Dr. Chris Adu-Poku

Once again, it has become very necessary for the New Patriotic Party to search for a National Party Chairman.

Many names have come to the fore but with strong conviction and looking back in those days when NPP was really NPP, National Chairmanship position was even more admirable than the presidency. In absolute terms, it is the party that gives birth to a government. Therefore the party Chairman was the supremo and the controller of the party.

It is very sad that almost all the astute personalities who should be vying for the National Chairmanship position are all gearing towards the flagbearership position. This has created a big void in the operations of the party. Those who matter, those who know the tenets of the party, those who know how this party operates are all abandoning the Chairmanship position to flagbearership position. One thing that we are not paying attention to is that when the foundation is weak the building structure becomes weak. It is for this background that a very special attention must be given to the search for a chairman for the party.

Such a person should possess all the qualities of a flagbearer/ President and even more. The National Party Chairman should not just be any person but a person with valour, wisdom, bravity, selfless, respectful, bold and in fact all encompassing. Men like, Chairman Da- Rocha, Odoi Sykes, Ala Adjetey, Mac Manu, etc were men of integrity. The men who could look into the face the President and tell him you are wrong. During their tenures there were so much discipline and unity in the party.

Many names have gone round but l will urge the pillars of the party to admonish the following men to accept the challenge and bring NPP from the sinking ship else we perish. At least one of these men should assume the seat and help steer the affairs of this great party. They include:

1. Hon. Boakye Agyarko.
2. Ing. Kwabena Agyapong
3. Mr. John Boadu.

Any of these men is very capable of managing this party to victory.

Now our party is in the duldrums. We need a disciplinarian and a man of integrity to manage the party not just anybody. These men have a proven record and must be helped to assume the seat.

There should be a concerted efforts to search for a national Chairman. It should not be opened to just competition but a thorough search for a serious minded person who has the party at heart. The position is a serious one which needs serious attention.

I will urge the men mentioned above to think very deep about the situation NPP finds itself now and consider this invitation to the benefit of the party rank and file.
