Parliament Greenlights GHC2.9BN For Ghana Medical Trust Fund

Parliament has approved a substantial GHC2.9 billion budget for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund for 2026, empowering the organization to revolutionize the country’s healthcare landscape.

The Fund’s mandate is to mobilize resources for specialized medical care, focusing on chronic and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.

The approved budget will facilitate the procurement of cutting-edge medical equipment, development of healthcare infrastructure, and human resource training, ultimately enhancing Ghana’s capacity to manage NCDs.

Additionally, the Fund will support specialist medical training and research initiatives, driving innovation and excellence in healthcare.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, oversaw the approval, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes. The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is poised to make a tangible impact, providing financial support and alleviating the burden of chronic illnesses on patients and the healthcare system.
