A powerful petition from the Stables of Good Governance Advocacy Group Ghana(GGAGG) has landed on President John Dramani Mahama’s desk, calling for the immediate removal of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) CEO, Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey.
The group alleges that Dr. Abbey has grossly mismanaged the institution, citing “poor leadership choices, incompetence, arrogance, intimidation tactics, misaligned and or misplaced priorities, financial mismanagement” as reasons for his removal.
The petition comes as COCOBOD struggles to pay arrears owed to cocoa farmers, leaving many disgruntled.
GGAGG commended President Mahama’s leadership, stating that Dr. Abbey has failed to emulate his skills and principles. The group warned that Dr. Abbey’s continued tenure threatens the industry, integral to Ghana’s economy and thousands of farmers’ livelihoods.
The National Cocoa Farmers Association has also expressed disappointment, stating that COCOBOD’s leadership has demonstrated a lack of competence. They demand immediate payment of arrears and threaten to advise themselves if the government fails to settle debts or reduce cocoa prices.
